A day in the life of a trainee

A Trainee Solicitors Journey: My Nowell Meller journey so far

A day in the life of a trainee

Since starting in the Wills and Probate team, I’ve sat in on client meetings, drafted a couple of Wills, drafted a few Lasting Powers of Attorney, and even started a probate application! I’ve only been with the team a couple of months now and I’m really enjoying the work involved so far. I’ll be with the team until Christmas 2021, so I hope to learn a lot more before my time with them is over!

Anyway, I thought I’d give you all an idea of what a day in the life of a Wills and Probate and Family trainee involves:

6.45am - Woke up, had some breakfast, and walked Monty (our Labradoodle).

9am -  Arrived at the office and started my day by checking through my emails.

10am-1pm - I set this time aside to complete any Wills and Probate work that I have. Today, I drafted a simple Will for an existing client, drafted Lasting Powers of Attorney for a couple and contacted an existing client to discuss who they would like their executors to be.

1pm-1.45pm - Lunch. Greggs (don’t tell my Fiancé).

2pm-3pm - Time for my family caseload! Researched and drafted a Maintenance Pending Suit application on a file that I am assisting my supervisor with.

3pm-3.45pm - Met face-to-face with an existing client to discuss financial matters arising from their separation

4pm-4.30pm - Met face-to-face with an existing client to discuss the terms of a Consent Order that I had previously drafted for them.

4.30pm-5pm - Finalised my notes from my meetings and organised my diary for the following day. I find if I don’t prepare for the coming day, it is easy to let certain tasks fall away

5pm - Home time! It’s equally as busy at home as it is at work at the moment, so I like to make a conscious effort to separate the two wherever I can.

I’ll spare you the details of my life after work, but as you can see, my days are full and varied, which is exactly how I like them. I would be lying if I said it isn’t challenging, but for me, all of the hard work is worth it.

I’ll see you all again soon!
