No Self-Assessment penalty for filing online by 28 February
In view of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, anyone who cannot file their self-assessment return by the 31 January deadline will not receive a late filing penalty if they file online by 28 February.
However, taxpayers are still obliged to pay their bill by 31 January and interest will be charged from 1 February on any outstanding liabilities.
Taxpayers who cannot afford to pay their tax bill on time can apply online to spread their bill in instalments over 12 months providing the debt does not exceed £30,000.
For debts over £30,000, or if you need longer than 12 months to pay, you may still be able to set up a Time to Pay arrangement by contacting HMRC.
Alternatively, if you find dealing with HMRC daunting Currie Young Limited have many years of experience and can act on your behalf. If you have had a Time to Pay arrangement refused by HMRC then we may be able to assist with refinancing, invoice factoring or there are various rescue/restructuring options.
